Feb. 14, 2017 -- On Feb. 10, the first session of Tibet Tibetan Carpet Industry Expo opening exhibition--"Traditional and Modern" Tibetan Carpets Culture and Art Exhibition is held in Lhasa. According to the Expo, Tibet will build the first Tibetan Carpet Museum.

Tibetan carpets are called "Zhongsi" in the Tibetan language, using Tibetan wool as the raw materials of production and mineral pigments for coloring. The Tibetan carpets are unique in pattern designs, bright in color, beautiful and elegant in appearance, which are known as one of the three world’s top carpets. The Tibetan carpets are widely used, including mat, carpet, back cushion, seat cushion, tapestry etc.

It is reported that the Expo is divided into two exhibitions, Century Tibetan Carpets Exhibition and the Neozoic Boutique Tibetan Carpets Exhibition. At the community art center exhibition hall of Tibet Autonomous Region, over 200 kinds of works including tapestries, rugs, mats and so on are exhibited. Although these carpets were made at different times, each one has its own merits.

A citizen from Lhasa said, "we only know that the Tibetan carpets are indispensable to Tibetans, unexpectedly, it also has artistic appreciation and collection value."

According to Dorje, the organizer of this activity, the centennial collections of Tibetan carpets are not easy to get. Inheritor of Tibetan carpets artistry Dan spent 30 years to collect these carpets from the domestic Tibetan areas, the United States, Switzerland and other countries.

In the new situation of the current prosperity and development of cultural industries, as part of the Tibetan culture, Tibetan carpet culture needs a display platform. At present, Tibet's first Carpet Museum is about to be built, and its preliminary work has been well prepared.

This event aims to create comprehensive exhibition platform benefits, broadcast the art and culture of Tibetan carpets, promote cultural exchanges of Tibetan carpets, and strives to make Tibetan carpet industry a new kind of supporting category with Tibetan characteristic culture.
