The reincarnation of Living Buddhas is a system of succession unique to Tibetan Buddhism. It was first introduced 700 years ago at the Karma Kagyu School's Tsurphu Monastery. Later adopted by other Tibetan Buddhist traditions, the system is still in wide use today.
