In Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, teaching has long extended beyond the classroom. Today, at more than 4,000 meters above sea level, Thondup Drolma's daily routine offers insight into how boarding schools have transformed education for children in remote pastoral regions.
From the high plateaus of southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, opportunities can seem distant. But for Pema Lhamo, a young girl from a herding family in Nagqu, which sits at an average elevation of over 4,500 meters, boarding school has opened the door to a top university.
