On August 30, China set up 24-hour hotlines for families of those missing after the August 26 mudslide that affected both Nepal and China.
A mudslide along the China-Nepal border has caused major damage in China's Xizang Autonomous Region. Foreign media reporters have visited the disaster zone to see the impact and rescue efforts.
At 10:52 a.m. Beijing time on August 26, a glacier collapsed high in the Himalayas. Six to seven minutes later, the ice-rock avalanche it unleashed flattened Gyirong Port in China's Xizang Autonomous Region — then kept going, surging downstream into Nepal.
