China's President Xi Jinping replied to a letter on Sunday that was sent to residents of Gala Village in south-eastern Xizang Autonomous Region. Our reporter Cen Ziyuan spoke to some of the villagers to hear their reactions.
Dawa Gyaltsen welcomed President Xi Jinping into his living room four years ago. Aged in his forties, Dawa has lived in the village since he was born.
DAWA GYALTSEN, Villager, Galai Village "President Xi cared about the development of my two kids and the two elderly in the family the most. He also checked out our living conditions and whether we are cold or not in the winter."
President Xi replied to the letter written by villagers recently. In the letter, President Xi says he hopes that, under the Chinese Communist Party's policies for strengthening the border and enriching the people, the villagers will effectively maintain ethnic unity and create a more prosperous and beautiful life. Galai Village is known for its peach blossoms in the spring.
President Xi also encouraged residents to protect the natural beauty of the Xizang Plateau, enhance the "Peach Blossom Village" brand, and contribute to the construction of a prosperous and stable frontier for China.
DAWA GYALTSEN, Villager, Galai Village "The busiest season is March and April when the peach flowers blossom. As for now, we have daily work that we need to complete. We clear the field and cut the grass. In the next few days, we need to harvest the barley."
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xizang Autonomous Region. The residents' letter aims to share the changes witnessed in their village since President Xi's visit, together with their determination to create a better life.
