Nov. 17, 2016 -- The railway connecting Tibet with China’s neighboring country Nepal is expected to complete by 2020, according to Junge Welt, a German news agency.

"In the first half of 2016, Tibet’s GDP increased by 10.6 percent, almost twice as much as the national average. While the majority of Tibet is still under-developed,, its economic growth is comparable to Chongqing city, one of China’s economic engines," Junge Welt reported.

A decade ago, China started to build this crucial railway, with an aim to help millions of Tibetans to live a better life. Tibet is rich in mineral resources and the railway lines will make them available to the outside world.

"In addition to the lines connecting Lhasa with Qinghai province and Nepal,, the line between Lhasa and Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, is also crucially important. With a total length of 1,600 kilometers, the Tibet-Sichuan railway opens new possibilities for regional economic cooperation," said Junge Welt.

This September, the first train left Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, embarking on a 12-day journey through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany and arriving in Antwerp of Belgium.

"In the future, trains in Tibet will run southward and pass through Delhi, Mumbai and Karachi, benefiting Tibetans in an all-round way," said Junge Welt.
