Nov. 1, 2016 -- The first group of “Legal Aid Center for Women” and “Women’s Legal Defense Team” were established in Tibet Autonomous Region recently.  

The Legal Aid Center for Women of Tibet Autonomous Region is a public benefit institution aiming to help women, especially disadvantaged women. It will also provide legal advice, publicity, and legal assistance for female victims, and undertake various legal tasks.  

In recent years, there have been many kinds of cases violating women's rights and interests, including those affecting cultural and educational rights, social security rights, as well as personal rights, property rights, rights within marriages and families, or cases which violate rights in many aspects at the same time. 

The establishment of the “Legal Aid Center for Women” and “Women’s Legal Defense Team” will help lawyers play a positive role in the defense of women’s rights, more effectively maintain the legal rights and interests of a vast number of Tibetan women, and further promote women's status within families and societies, said a staff of the Justice Department of Tibet Autonomous Region.
