World leaders voice support for China's efforts to fight virus

Feb.21,2020 -- A growing number of leaders from countries around the world and the United Nations have expressed their appreciation and support for China amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
 
China shows great leadership, organizing power and high efficiency in fighting against the COVID-19 epidemic, and Venezuela will firmly support China in battling the virus, said Delcy Rodríguez, vice president of Venezuela.
 
Dragan Covic, rotating chairman of the House of Peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina,expressed sympathy for the outbreak in a letter to Chinese Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Ji Ping, saying that the novel coronavirus has become a global challenge, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen friendship.
 
Colombian Foreign Minister Claudia Blum applauded China’s efforts in combating the virus and expressed sympathy and support for Chinese people on behalf of Colombia President Iván Duque Márquez and the Colombian government.
 
Argentina Health Minister Ginés González García appreciated China’s efforts in curbing the spread of COVID-19 and voiced strong support for China.
 
As China plays an indispensable role in promoting global economic growth, defeating the disease, which needs the international society to stand with China, will benefit the global economy. The Philippines has full confidence in China, said Karlo Nograles, secretary to the Cabinet of the Philippines at a press conference.
 
Lianne Dalziel, mayor of Christchurch, New Zealand, expressed condolence to those infected in a letter to its sister city Wuhan, saying Christchurch will stand in solidarity with  the city to fight the disease. 
 
Lianne also called on the international community to debunk fake news and stop spreading rumours as “it’s a time to show kindness and understanding”.
 
China has shared information and experience with the world in a timely manner, including the virus information, rapid diagnostics, treatment and prevention methods, which is significant to curb the virus. Medical professionals will learn from China to guide the health and epidemic prevention work in Kazakhstan, said the chief public health officer of Kazakhstan, Zhandarbek Bekshin, in an interview with Xinhua.
 
Jorge Chediek, UNOSSC Director and Envoy of the Secretary-General on SSC, expressed great confidence in China’s victory against the COVID-19, saying China has shown great power in many areas and has set a good example for the rest of the world in fighting the epidemic. 
 
He also called on other countries to deepen cooperation with China, taking scientific measures to cope with the epidemic rather than overreact.
