Feb.28, 2024 -- The Xizang autonomous region promises to increase its public sports parks in the next two years to promote its fitness cause.

The region will construct 17 sports parks in 2024 and 2025 and promote the free or low-cost opening of public sports venues to the public, according to the region's sports bureau.

Last year, the bureau invested 345 million yuan ($48 million) in the cause, focusing on constructing public sports facilities in communities and towns and increasing support for border areas, high-altitude regions and remote pastoral areas.

Xizang has a total of 8,640 sports venues of all kinds, with a total area of almost 6.5 million square meters, and the per capita sports venue area has reached 1.78 square meters, the bureau said.
