Dec. 22, 2023 -- The per capita disposable income of rural residents in the Xizang autonomous region has continued to grow in the first three quarters of this year, as reported by Xizang Daily.

 

The region's per capita disposable income of rural residents reached 12,516 yuan ($1,750), representing an increase of 8.7 percent, ranking first among all provincial areas of the country.

 

The main driver behind this growth was the net operating income from the plateau's characteristic agricultural and pastoral industries, contributing 35 percent of the overall income increase for farmers and herders.

 

Throughout this year, departments at all levels in Xizang have prioritized the central task of promoting increased incomes for farmers and herders. They have regarded increasing the incomes of the 734,000 people lifted out of poverty as a top priority in consolidating and expanding the achievements of poverty alleviation.

 

Efforts have been made to broaden the channels for rural income growth, focusing on industrial development, stable employment, and exploring new models for income generation, thus maintaining the upward trend in rural incomes.

 

Notably, industries such as tourism have seen significant income increases. From January to August, the region received more than 44.92 million domestic and international tourist visits, generating a total tourism revenue of more than 52.96 billion yuan.

 

The region has improved its agricultural support and protection systems by allocating various agricultural funds to ensure farmers and herders benefit from more policy dividends and stable income transfer.

 

So far, more than 9.8 billion yuan in subsidies have been paid for strengthening agriculture, benefiting farmers, and enriching rural areas.

 

Lodan, deputy head of the regional agriculture and rural affairs department, was quoted by Xizang Daily as saying, "In the fourth quarter, we will continue to focus on employment, industry, policies, and reform-driven efforts."

 

"We will seize favorable opportunities, such as the concentrated production and market release of agricultural and livestock products, to accelerate policy implementation progress and further increase the income of farmers and herders," he added.
