LHASA, June 11,2021 -- YangChung, who is nearly 80 years old, once worked as a serf before the democratic reform in Tibet in 1959.

As the eldest daughter of a poor family, YangChung suffered a lot in the old Tibet. She began to work as a servant to a serf owner when she was only 8 years old. In the daytime, she herded cattle and sheep and did chores, while at night she could only sleep in the sheep pen or the corner of the kitchen.

Done with the hardship, YangChung run away to another county at the age of 12, but her life was still hard until the democratic reform in 1959 when she was finally freed and was able to lead a brand new life.

Now, YangChung is a retiree living in Xigaze of Tibet. She enjoys her life with children and grandchildren around. In her words, life is sweeter than honey.
