Qamdo achieves remarkable results in industrial poverty alleviation

July 26, 2019 -- Since the work of poverty alleviation started, Qamdo City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, has implemented the policies related to industrial poverty alleviation and achieved remarkable progress. Since 2016, 124,000 people have gotten rid of poverty; poverty incidence rate has dropped from 24.95% at the end of 2015 to 9.7% at the end of 2018; 713 poverty-stricken villages and 6 counties (district), including Karub, Dengqen, Riwoqe, Jomda, Lhorong as well as Banbar, have been lifted out of poverty.
 
In the process of industrial poverty alleviation, Qamdo City has been continuously cultivating and strengthening its characteristic industries, so as to promote and support stable income growth of poor households. By the end of June in 2019, the whole city has started 769 poverty alleviation projects (including 57 projects for deep poverty-stricken areas), such as planting, breeding and processing industries, cultural tourism, commerce circulation as well as resource development; it has completed 572 industry projects (including 26 projects for deep poverty-stricken areas); besides, it has had accumulative total investment of 6.288 billion yuan RMB; totaling 50,354 people have gotten rid of poverty.
