China Telecom promotes poverty alleviation in Chamdo

Nov. 9, 2018 -- China Telecom Corporation Limited is a large-scale and leading integrated information services operator in the world, providing mobile telecommunications, internet access and information services in China.
 
Since 2002, China Telecom actively fulfilled the political, economic and social responsibilities of a central enterprise. In the work of targeted poverty alleviation, it has improved communication infrastructure at Banbar County of Chamdo City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, which helped winning the battle against poverty in Tibet.
 
Over the past 16 years, China Telecom has sent 15 cadres to implement a series of measures on the people's livelihood, such as building roads and houses, upgrading water conservancy facilities and developing special industries at the grass-roots level. Since 2016, Banbar County has lifted 4,023 people from 868 households in 20 villages out of poverty. Besides, the poverty incidence has dropped to 27.97% in this county.
 
Banbar County covers a total area of 8,894 square kilometers, with an average altitude of 4,000 meters. There are 2 towns and 9 villages under the jurisdiction of the County. In order to improve the production and living conditions of farmers and herdsmen, China Telecom has adapted to local conditions, mastered local poverty situation and established archives, too.
 
China Telecom has improved the subsidy mechanism for telecommunications, promoted the development of broadband network and implemented e-commerce poverty alleviation projects. According to the actual situation of Chamdo, China Telecom has formulated a series of plans to build a significant first-class urban management platform.
 
China Telecom vigorously has implemented the construction of communication infrastructure, invested more than 6.3 million yuan (909,025 US dollars) to the construction of information system, which has greatly motivated the circulation of information.
 
Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) is one of the major endemic diseases in Banbar County, which seriously endangered the physical and mental health of the local people. In response to this situation, China Telecom introduced selenium-containing rice to optimize dietary structure of local sick areas, which has achieved positive results.
