Nov. 2, 2018 -- Wildlife resources are the most important part of ecological protection. According to the Forestry Bureau of Chushur County, the main part of the wildlife ambulance station has been completed. After completion and operation, it will promote more professional and comprehensive protection of wildlife.

With the rapid development of economy and society, the survival status of wildlife is facing with more and more challenges, such as pathophoresis, human activities and so on, which has caused some wildlife trapped and injured. In July this year, aiming at protecting and managing wildlife, Chushur County began to build the wildlife ambulance station combining with the actual situation of wildlife rescue.

Migmar Tsering, staff of Forestry Bureau of Chushur County said that ambulance station was located in Chushur Zoo, about 40 kilometers from Lhasa City, the first wildlife ambulance station in Lhasa City. Relying on perfect hardware facilities and ecological environment of the zoo, the ambulance station will take care of the wildlife rescued and unsuitable for re-stocking, which not only better protects wildlife, but also reduces government and enterprise investment.

The ambulance station covers an area of over 2400 square meters, and is divided into business rooms and animal cages. The business rooms include consulting room, office as well as supply room. Besides, animal cages cover an area of more than 1,000 square meters, with separate areas for carnivores, herbivores and birds. The feed room is used to store all kinds of forages, fodders as well as special food for seriously injured animals.

A person in charge of Chushur Zoo said that the ambulance station had rescued a lot of wildlife before, but due to limited conditions, only simple medical assistance were carried out. Since last year, various wild animals including alligator snapping turtles, wolves, wapiti and other wild animals have been rescued with the help of veterinarians of the zoo.

At present, the construction of the ambulance station is under way. According to Mr. Zhao, project director, the main parts of the business rooms and cages have been completed, and the follow-up works such as sewage pipes are being constructed. In addition, the functions of the business rooms and cages were clearly divided, and a disinfection channel was built between the business rooms and cages to make the rescue work safer and more sanitary.

Migmar Tsering, staff of Forestry Bureau of Chushur County says that the construction of the infrastructure will be completed by the end of October, and then medical and disinfection equipment will be purchased. At the same time, professional training for the veterinarians will also be arranged. After the ambulance station is put into operation, it will take on the rescue work of wildlife in Chushur County and even in Lhasa City, which not only provides some employment opportunities for local farmers and herdsmen, but also improves people's awareness of animal protection through publicity and education.
