Better transport in Tibet

April 11, 2018 -- Over the past five years, a total of 24,145 kilometers of roads had been added to the region, with an average annual growth by 4,830 kilometers each year. The fixed-asset investment in transportation reached 146.5 billion yuan, increasing 47.3 percent each year. Tibet has already formed a complete development plan of transportation.

By the end of 2017, the total length of roads in Tibet reached 89,343 kilometers. When seven high-grade highways have already opened to traffic, total first-class highway mileage in Tibet grew from 37 kilometers in 2012 to 660 kilometers. The total length of national and provincial road reached 28,922 kilometers. The rural road mileage increased from 53,244 kilometers in 2012 to 60,421 kilometers, with 99.71 percent of towns having access to asphalt roads.

During the past five years, the fixed-asset investment in transportation reached 146.5 billion yuan, an average annual growth of 47.3 percent each year, which offers the important support for regional economic growth. The complete development plan of transportation in Tibet also improves local people's livelihoods.
