update:December 29,2017
Dec. 29, 2017 -- This year, the Bankar Village of Biru County, located in the connected area of northern Tibet and eastern Tibet, has vigorously promoted its construction of central township and well-off new village, thus to realize a better work in poverty reduction and economic prosperity, relying on its geographical advantage and convenient transportation condition. As for Biru County, the total mileage of the whole county is 1148.73 kilometers, with a township unobstructed rate of 90%, while the number of formal villages linked by rural roads is 173, with the unobstructed rate of 98.86%.

Transportation construction is the first step for poverty alleviation and village revitalization. Therefore, Tibet has greatly advanced the efforts in rural road construction while enhancing the classification work of national highway and provincial highway.

Nagqu Prefecture, as an extreme poverty area in Tibet, is weak in infrastructure construction, such as the transportation construction. To narrow the development gap with other areas in Tibet, this year, Nagqu has made great efforts to accelerate the rural road construction and has achieved obvious results. It is estimated that by the end of 2017, the mileage of unobstructed road in the entire prefecture will reach 16,500 kilometers (except national highway and provincial highway), which is 2,128 kilometers more than that of the end of last year, with the county and township unobstructed rates of 100% and 86.8% respectively. It will provide strong support to poverty reduction and rural revitalization.

In recent years, rural road construction plays an important role in poverty reduction. In 2017, Tibet is expected to achieve a total investment of 23 billion yuan RMB in rural road construction, accounting for 41% of the whole year's investment. Farmers and herdsmen, especially people live in poor condition along the road are encouraged to participate in the road construction projects. The transportation condition and income increment have been greatly improved.

Yumkye, head of Department of Transport, TAR, said, “All the continued construction of country roads should be completed in 2018. We should pay special attention to the construction of frontier defence roads, ‘Four Good’ rural roads, as well as roads in border villages. ”

Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed the significance of construction, maintenance and operation of rural roads in the country's battle against poverty.

Efforts should be made to build good roads in rural areas and keep them under sound maintenance, so as to ensure a better quality of life for farmers and accelerate the agricultural modernization, Xi said.
