Tibet's sustainable development in agriculture

Nov. 15, 2016 -- Tibet's sowing acreage reaches 2.68 million mu (178,713 hectares) in 2016, an increase of 79,100 mu (5,273 hectares) compared with last year.
 
Shigatse, located in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, boasts fertile farmland and abundant natural resources. Gyinkar Village, Paltsal Town of Panam County, a demonstration village of highland barely field of first-class seed breeding, harvests 1,000 mu (66.66 hectares) this year. Dawa Dondrup, a villager growing highland barely, said that he harvested over 35,000 kilograms of highland barely, bringing him an income of  RMB 180,000 (26,328 U.S. dollars).
 
In recent years, Tibet has put forth efforts to implement policy of supporting agriculture and accelerate the construction of irrigation and water conservancy projects. As such, Tibet welcomed another harvest year.
 
Water conservancy plays an important role in improving infrastructures and modernization of farming and husbandry. Thanks to the supports from the Party Central Committee and the State Council, Tibet’s water conservancy makes great progress. Particularly, with the construction and operation of large water control projects, Tibet’s irrigation and water conservancy facilities develops achieves great improvement, providing a solid foundation for Tibet’s water conservancy.
