56 scholars and guests from colleges, research institutions and famous temples nationwide attended the forum, including representatives from Hong Kong and Taiwan.

 

Wang Changyu, Executive vice president of the High-level Tibetan Buddhism College addressed the opening ceremony and Li Ji, chairman of the Palace Museum Cultural Relics Protection Foundation in Beijing, made a keynote speech.

 

The participants discussed the relationship between the Xihuang Lama Temple and the Forbidden City, and that between the imperial family of the Qing Dynasty and Tibetan Buddhism.

 

This forum strengthened exchanges and cooperation in Tibetan studies, promoted the interpretation research and communication of Tibetan Buddhist culture.

 

As an organic component of Chinese traditional culture, Tibetan Buddhism is characterized by patriotism and love of the religion. Beijing Xihuang Lama Temple has witnessed the glorious tradition of eminent Buddhist monks represented by the 6th Panchen Lama. The Palace Museum is one of the largest collecting institutions for Tibetan Buddhist cultural relics with nearly 30,000 pieces in the Forbidden City.

 

The first Xihuang Lama Temple Forum was held with the theme of “Emperor Qian Long and the 6th Panchen Lama” in October 2013, and the second was held in September 2015, focusing on the religious doctrine and cultural interpretation of Tibetan Buddhism.
