Feb. 5, 2018 -- China's Sichuan Airline launched a new route from Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, to Lhasa, capital of Tibet, on Wednesday, linking Urumqi with all the other capital cities in the country.

The Urumqi-Xining-Lhasa route was built with the concerted efforts of Xinjiang, Qinghai, Tibet and the National Civil Aviation Agency, benefiting passengers from the three provinces and contributing to the building of the air corridor of the Silk Road Economic Belt.

Sichuan Airline established Urumqi base in Xinjiang and will put ten airplanes into use. It is also expected to launch Urumqi-Xining-Beihai and Chengdu-Urumqi-Altay air routes.

In recent years, Xinjiang Airport Group has deepened cooperation with other airlines under the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2017, Xinjiang Airport Group served for more than 30 million passengers by flying 264 air routes including 50 new-launched ones.
