Xizang's Lhasa conducts comprehensive tourism resource survey, identifying 7,799 sites

It was learned from the Lhasa Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau on May 30 that the tourism resource survey in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, which commenced in May 2023, has enabled Lhasa City to basically ascertain the total quantity, scale, richness, and grade of tourism resources within its jurisdiction. A total of 7,799 tourism resources have been surveyed.

As the capital city of the Xizang Autonomous Region, Lhasa boasts world cultural heritage sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Norbulingka. Namtso Lake, one of Xizang's three sacred lakes, is also a must-visit attraction for numerous tourists traveling to Xizang. Additionally, the KorchongKangri Glacier and ancient architectural complexes are highly sought-after by visitors. The reporter learned that among the surveyed tourism resources, there are 1,886 high-quality ones, accounting for 24.18% of the total, and 3,884 newly discovered and recognized resources, making up 49.8% of the total.

In terms of type and structural characteristics, Lhasa's tourism resources are categorized into eight major types, including geomorphic landscapes, water landscapes, biological landscapes, architectural and facility landscapes, and historical relics, totaling 7,799 sites. Architectural and facility landscapes account for the largest proportion at 41.22%, followed by geomorphic landscapes at 17.44%.

Cultural tourism is a pillar industry in Lhasa. Statistics show that in 2024, Lhasa City received a total of 43.2444 million domestic and overseas tourists, a year-on-year increase of 15%, and achieved a tourism revenue of 52.928 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14%.
