Butter lantern fest
The fest was founded in memory of the master Tsongkhapa, founder of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Founded in 1409, it is one of the most robust fests in Lhasa and celebrated on January 15 of lunar calendar used by the Tibetan nationality. During the fest, people visit temples for praying and hold butter lantern shows. Historically, Dalai Lama, lamas and government officials also participate to enjoy the fest.
