March 9

On March 9, 1993, the Working Conference on Education Assistance to Tibet was held by the national education department under the authorization of the State Council in Beijing. Li Tieying, the member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, State Councilor and director of the national education department, said on the conference that it was a significant policy made by the State Council to aid the education development in Tibet by other provinces. The policy would greatly support the building of modernization in Tibet.

On March 9, 1970, the 14th Dalai Lama announced a “statement” in New Delhi, capital of India. It stated that the so-called “For Independence of Tibet” activity would proceed. The “statement” was spread by Dalai Lama’s representative in America through receptions on March 12.

On March 9, 1959, Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme reported to the Working Committee in Tibet that the separatists were conspiring to flee overseas with hijacking the 14th Dalai Lama. Before then, the American President Eisenhower made an instruction to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), saying they must try to take the 14th Dalai Lama away from China. Therefore, the conspiracy made by senior leaders of Tibet Insurgency to flee was based on America’s will.
