The Sera Monastery was founded in 1419 during the Ming Dynasty by Jamchen Chojey, a disciple of Je Tsongkhapa.
Sera monastery suffered severe damage in history, but after the peaceful liberation of Tibet, the central and local governments spared no efforts to repair it. Now Sera Monastery has become a sacred place for lamas holding religious activities.
