Nov. 14, 2023 -- China's government has issued a white paper outlining policies on the governance of Xizang Autonomous region. Zheng Yibing has more. 

 

The whitepaper is titled: CPC Policies on the Governance of Xizang in the New Era: Approach and Achievements. It details the political, economic, cultural, ethnic, religious, social, and ecological progress made in the region.

 

WANG GANG, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee "In 2022, Xizang's GDP exceeded 213 billion yuan, which is more than 1.28 times higher than 2012 at constant prices. Infrastructure construction in Xizang has been comprehensively strengthened, absolute poverty has been historically resolved, common prosperity has been significantly improved, and the sense of gain, happiness, and security of the people of all ethnic groups has been greatly guaranteed."

 

The white paper highlights the work done to alleviate poverty in Xizang.

 

YAN JINHAI, Deputy Secretary, The CPC Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee "We have historically eliminated absolute poverty, which is rare in the extremely difficult conditions of the snowy plateau. The growth rate of per capita disposable income in Xizang has been the highest in China for eight consecutive years."

 

The white paper also addresses other critical issues.

 

WANG GANG, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee "Throughout Xizang, there are more than 1,700 places conducting religious activity and more than 1,700 religious and folk customs are being carried out, fully meeting the normal needs of all religious believers."

 

WANG HAIZHOU, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee "We can say with great pride that in Xizang, children never have to drop school because of family difficulties, and the vast majority of children have changed their own and their families' destinies through education, and have lived a happy life."

 

YAN JINHAI, Deputy Secretary, The CPC Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee "Since the 18th CPC National Congress, more than 90 percent of voters in the Xizang Autonomous Region have taken part in direct elections at counties and towns, and in some places the participation rate has been as high as 100 percent."

 

The white paper reiterates the importance of environmental protection in Xizang.
