Nov. 30, 2018 -- Lum medicinal bathing of Sowa Rigpa, or traditional Tibetan bathing for medical purposes, was inscribed onto the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO on Nov. 28.

Tibetans believe bathing in natural hot springs, herbal water or steam can help adjust the balance of the body and mind, ensure health, and treat illness.

The Manpa (physician), Lum Jorkhan (pharmacist) and Manyok (assistant) hold respective responsibilities in the practice.

China now has 40 entries on the UNESCO list.
