Feb. 14, 2017 -- According to Swiss media, the “Tibetan nationality” or “non nationality” will not be recognized when the “exiled Tibetans” apply for residence permits and passports in Switzerland. Those applicants instead will be marked “Chinese citizens”.
In this way, the exiled Tibetans need to apply for relevant documents from the Chinese Embassy if they are engaged in business, tourism and other activities.
With the tide of refugees pouring into Europe in recent years, Switzerland has to strictly control the number of refugees within its borders and ascertain their identities. Thus, it is necessary for the Immigration Office to ask the “exiled Tibetans” to mark their nationality on the identity documents.
“Tibetans are also Chinese”, said an official of the Immigration Affairs Secretariat of Swiss Confederation, “the alteration of nationality from ‘Tibet’ to ‘China’ on the identity documents is an error correction.”
