March 5,2020 -- China’s effective de-radicalization measures in Xinjiang protect people’s human rights and also help other countries in their fight against de-radicalization and counter-terrorism, said Li Wei, member of the China Society for Human Rights Studies and researcher with the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, at the on-going 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Terrorist incidents occurred frequently in Xinjiang. However, not a single terrorist or violent incident has ever happened over the past three years in Xinjiang. The region has enjoyed peace and stability, said Li.
Pursuing common prosperity and narrowing the gap between rich and poor are necessary for eradicating terrorism. China has proposed the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and holds that people of all races and ethnicities should unite to confront terrorism and radicalization, the common enemy of humankind.
Li said that the wide spread of radicalization leads to the current rampancy of terrorism. Therefore, international cooperation is needed to fight both terrorism and radicalization.
