Chinese NGOs hold thematic conference in Geneva

March 5,2020 -- China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE) and other Chinese nongovernmental organizations jointly held the thematic multilateral conference of "Promoting Sustainable Development Goals by Chinese Nongovernmental Organizations " in Geneva during the on-going 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
 
Liu Kaiyang, deputy secretary-general of the CNIE, said development is essential for protecting and promoting human rights. In recent years, Chinese nongovernmental organizations have been active in reducing poverty, promoting education equity, and responding to climate change, and have made contributions to the realization of the sustainable development goals.
 
The representative of the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) introduced the international projects that the foundation has undertaken in the fields of poverty eradication, education quality improvement, and guaranteeing clean drinking water as well as China’s situation to the prevention and control of the COVID-19, stressing that China is working hard to overcome the impact of the epidemic, and resolutely complete the task of poverty alleviation.
  
The representative of Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges introduced the progress of the projects in promoting environmental protection and sustainable urban development, advocating gender equality, and shared the practices of Beijing's nongovernmental organizations in promoting the realization of sustainable development goals and protecting human rights. 
 
The representative of Beijing Youth Legal Aid and Research Center introduced how to better protect children's rights and interests in achieving the sustainable development goals, especially in eliminating violence against children and helping children get access to judicial justice.
 
The Representative of the CNIE said that the "Silk Road Family" initiative launched at the “People-to-People Bonds” sub-forum of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2019 is progressing smoothly and has promoted the realization of the sustainable development goals of countries along the Belt and Road. 
 
The representative of the United Nations Association of China introduced their work in publicizing the United Nations, studying UN issues, advocating multilateralism, and promoting regional and global partnerships.
 
Diplomats from various countries in Geneva, and representatives of relevant international organizations and non-governmental organizations also attended the conference.
