Oct.14,2019-- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned Sunday's mortar attack on Mogadishu's international airport that hit the compounds of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The mortar attack on Aden Adde International Airport left at least six people injured in the quarters where the UN and African Union missions as well as several embassies are located.

Guterres wished a quick recovery to all those injured, said his spokesman Stephane Dujarric, in a statement.

The secretary-general reiterated his strong support to all UN colleagues in Somalia. He reaffirmed that the UN remains determined to support the federal government of Somalia and all Somalis in their pursuit of peace and stability, said the statement.

The UN mission provides strategic support and advice to the federal government of Somalia and AMISOM on peacebuilding and state-building.

The UN mission was deployed in 2013 to help reinforce stability in Somalia, where al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab fighters have been seeking to overthrow the government. Al-Shabaab did not immediately claim responsibility for Sunday's attack.
