BEIJING, March 18,2021 -- China saw fewer crimes involving guns and explosives in 2020, registering a year-on-year decrease of 4.3 percent and 36.1 percent, respectively, the Ministry of Public Security said on Wednesday.
China initiated a three-year campaign targeting crimes related to guns and explosives in May 2020. Since then, police across the country have cracked 24,000 such cases, busting 113 gangs and 314 crime dens, and capturing 24,000 suspects, the ministry said.
Nearly 1,200 cases were solved due to tip-offs from the public.
The ministry will further step up efforts for seizure of guns and explosives, and encourage the public to provide tip-offs and hand in illegal guns and explosives voluntarily.
