BEIJING, Dec.23,2020 -- There has been a rise in the number of people willing to donate their organs after death, with the donation rate on the Chinese mainland doubling from 2015 to 2019, a report has found.

The number of donors increased to 4.16 per million population (PMP) in 2019 from 2.01 PMP in 2015, said the 2019 report on China organ donation development released Friday by the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation.

According to the report, the deceased donations on the Chinese mainland reached 5,818 cases in 2019 from 2,766 in 2015.

Volunteers became the lone source of transplants in China after organ trading was outlawed in 2011 and the use of organs of executed prisoners banned in 2015.

To date, more than 2.7 million volunteers have registered to donate organs after death, said the report.
