Oct.25, 2019 --  China has allocated 116.47 billion yuan (16.47 billion U.S. dollars) as subsistence allowances this year as of the end of September, the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) said on Thursday.

A total of 928,000 families (1.85 million individuals) were removed from the list eligible for subsistence allowances, while 965,000 families (1.854 million individuals) were added to the list from June to September, according to the MCA.

The ministry initiated a three-year campaign targeting corruption and misconduct during the handling of subsistence allowances in rural areas in 2018.

A total of 182 officials have been punished during the campaign.

Efforts will be made to ensure that the elderly, the disabled and minors in need enjoy basic living allowances in the next stage of the campaign, according to the MCA.
