BEIJING, Aug. 2, 2018 -- China's Ministry of Emergency Management on Wednesday sent a batch of disaster-relief materials to flooded areas in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The materials, including tents, foldaway beds, and quilts, were transported to the storm-hit regions from the central government's reserve warehouses in Urumqi and Kashgar, the ministry said.

On Tuesday, some areas in the city of Hami in eastern Xinjiang were pelted by heavy rain.

An emergency workgroup from the ministry is currently in Hami to examine the disaster and assist local disaster-relief efforts.

The National Meteorological Center on Wednesday issued a warning for possible mountain torrents brought about by heavy rain in areas including eastern Xinjiang before Thursday evening.

The center urged local authorities to step up efforts in real-time monitoring, early warning, and evacuation of affected people.
