VIENTIANE, Aug. 2, 2018 -- The "Peace Train-2018" China-Laos humanitarian medical rescue joint exercise ended Tuesday, during which the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) handed over emergency relief to the Lao side.

PLA donated disease control and prevention vehicles, two of them now operating in the disaster-hit area in southern Lao province of Attapeu, and other medical equipment and medicines.

During the seven-day joint exercise, the two military medical service troops focused on such exercise subjects as the treatment of wounded and sick patients at flooded sites, medical evacuation of patients by land, air and water, epidemic prevention and elimination, disease source monitoring as well as joint command.

Lao doctors joining the exercise said they have learned a lot from their Chinese counterparts.

During the exercise, an under-construction saddle dam of the Xe Pian-Xe Namnoy hydropower project, invested by South Korean, Thai and Lao companies, collapsed, unleashing some 5 billion cubic meters of water to some 13 villages of Sanamxay district in Attapeu.

Approved by the Central Military Commission, the PLA medical team, which was on the joint exercise in the Lao capital of Vientiane, dispatched an epidemic prevention unit to Attapeu.

The 32-member contingent was the first fully-equipped international rescue team arriving in the flood-hit area.
