June 1, 2018 -- This year marks the 70th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping, and also the 28th anniversary of China’s participation.
Till now, China has dispatched 37,000 soldiers to participate in 24 UN missions, being the biggest provider of peacekeeping troops and the second largest financial supporter. Today, about 2,500 Chinese peacekeeping soldiers are safeguarding world peace and promoting friendship abroad.
Chinese blue helmets spare no efforts to assist the locals to fight against disasters, provide medical treatments, help children, clear mines and so on.
The world today is not peaceful. Many global security issues like wars, poverty, terrorism, online crimes and transnational organized crimes are prevalent.
China has been steadily increasing its contribution to the UN peacekeeping operations through the years, and sets a good example to other countries, said Nick Bernbach, spokesperson for the UN Peacekeeping Operations.
Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to make continuous efforts to keep the world peaceful at the Leaders’ Summit on Peacekeeping in September, 2015, showing China’s sincerity and determination to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
