Feb. 12, 2018 -- A total of 13.51 million urban jobs were created in 2017 and the registered urban unemployment rate had been reduced to 3.9% by the end of 2017, the lowest in recent years, according to China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS).

Employment is the most important matter related to people’s livelihood. China, as a country with a population of 1.4 billion, has added more than 13 million jobs annually for five consecutive years, which is a miracle.

In the past five years, a total of over 66 million urban jobs have been created. The employment rate of college graduates is higher than 90 percent, and 1.1 million workers who lost their jobs as a result of cutting overcapacity got new jobs, said Yin Weimin, minister of the MOHRSS.

Employment is not only related to personal development and family well-being, but also to economic development and social stability. In 2018, China will improve policies for employment and entrepreneurship and release the full potentials of entrepreneurship in boosting employment, said Yin.
