Feb.2,2018--China has lifted over 700 million Chinese people out of poverty since the reform and opening up policy was adopted. 60,000 poverty-stricken people have got rid of poverty since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), reducing the poverty rate from 10.2 percent to lower than 4 percent. And the 19th CPC National Congress set out the goal of eradicating poverty in rural areas by 2020.

As there are still over 700 million people living in extreme poverty in the world, the international community pays great attention to China’s experience.

China’s poverty relief efforts offer lessons for other developing countries and emerging economies that are on the road toward shaking off poverty.

China has set a good example in poverty alleviation, and the great achievements are a result of the Chinese government’s clear goal and the determination of putting poverty alleviation work as a priority, said Anna Campos, official for poverty reduction project of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO).

Christian Vienna, president of the China-Belgium Friendship Group of the Belgian Federal Parliament, has been to China for many times in the past five years. She has visited several poverty-stricken families in China and was deeply impressed. Without the government’s strong determination, the achievements are impossible. People not only get rid of poverty but also make a sustainable living, said Christian.
