Jan. 29, 2019 -- The Sports Bureau of Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region plans to spend 4 million yuan ($590,000) on its large-scale cleanup campaign of Qomolangma, also known as Mount Everest in the West, starting from 2019, as bureau chief Nyima Tsering told China Daily in an exclusive interview.

Offered by the Ministry of Finance, the money will be used for bringing down the remains of victims above 8,000 meters and other cleanup work in the mountainous region.

The number of climbers allowed to visit the mountainous region will also be limited to 200 every year, down from the previous 300.

Tsering noted as the number of climbers drops, the size of staff is expected to shrink as well, thus preserving a better environment on the world's highest mountain.
