According to Shigatse’s tourism bureau, Shigatse will make great efforts to boost rural tourism, helping people get out of poverty and build a prosperous society in all respects. 

 

Nyamo Town of Shigatse, near National Highway 318, is 55 kilometers away from Shigatse city. Every peak season sees a flow of tour buses from Lhasa to Shigatse. Several years ago, Nyamo Town began to build a folk tourism village along National Highway 318, which attracted a large number of tourists that brought fortunes to the village.

 

Shigatse’s Tourism Development Committee firstly made a survey on rural tourism resources in order to know the information related to rural tourism, such as its layout, structure and functions. After than, selected resources will be integrated, creating a special rural tourism with local features, which attracts more tourists and helps increase local income. 

 

Ren Dongjie, a director of Shigatse's Tourism Development Committee, said, “Three kinds of tour lines (tour to Mt. Qomolangma, tour to Red River Valley and tour along the source of Nyagqu) covers a large area of Shigatse, providing an opportunity for rural tourism development and increasing of local income. “

 

Thanks to the development of rural tourism, Shigatse focuses on the construction of 10 key rural tourism demonstration villages.  

 

For meeting the needs of tourists, kitchens, bathrooms and pipe lines of family inns will be upgraded in Pasum village of Dingri county and Kyibuk village of Kyirong county. Shigatse strives for offering star-grade tour experience. So far, there are a total of 88 family inns in Shigatse, 26 of which are gold-star grade, 33 silver-star grade and 29 bronze-star grade. 

 

An owner of a family inn in Dingri County said that the development of tourism also brought fortunes. She can earn more than 50,000 yuan by running the family inn every year. Besides, the local living standards also got an improvement.

 

According to Ren, in recent years, several promotion activities including tourism expo and tourism and cultural festival promote the transformation of excellent tourism resources into mature tourist products, boosting the local economy.

 

In 2017, farmers and herdsmen from 9,313 households are engaged in tourism in Shigatse, generating over 190 million yuan in revenue.
