Jan. 15, 2018 -- As the Spring Festival and Tibetan New Year (Losar) are approaching, the Lhasa City Investment Company provides nearly 300 stalls for merchants who sell New Year's goods in the Barkhor Shopping Mall for free. The stalls are mainly divided into candy, Kase (fried wheat twists), Chemar (a box with Tsampa and highland barley in each half decorated with wheat ears and yak butter sculptures), highland barley seedling, Spring Festival couplets, dried fruit, butter sculpture, Tibet's specialty and so on. Such kind of stalls have been provided for merchants for three consecutive years. Unlike previous years, this year, households enjoying the minimum living guarantee as well as low income families have the priority to enjoy the stalls.

 

The stall information registry is set up at the entrance of the 1st district of Barkhor Shopping Mall. Workers have been busy arranging these stalls half a month in advance. At present, nearly 300 stalls have already been set up. Now it has entered the registration stage.

 

On the first floor, more than 100 stalls are set up for Chemar, Spring Festival couplets, butter sculpture, highland barley seedling and so on. On the second floor, over 100 stalls are set up for candy, fried fruit and so on.

 

The registration time is from January 8 to 13. Eligible merchants from six counties and two districts in Lhasa City all can register here. Due to limited number of stalls and large number of registered merchants, the stalls and locations will be determined by drawing lots. It is expected that merchants can sell goods since January 16 and then citizens can also go to the Barkhor Shopping Mall to purchase goods for the Tibetan New Year and Spring Festival.
