Tibet vigorously develops outdoor sports

July 21,2017--According to the Sports Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region, in recent years, Tibet not only carries forward traditional mountaineering advantage, but also vigorously develops outdoor industry.
 
Nima Tsering, deputy director of the Sports Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region, says, “Tibet has a variety of ecological resources such as high-altitude snowy mountains, primeval forests, steams, lakes, grasslands, and deserts. With unique outdoor resources, we strive to create Tibet as popular destination for outdoor sports.” For this purpose, in accordance with regional division and seasonal characteristics, the Sports Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region creates different kinds of outdoor sports projects and bases in Lhasa, Shigatse, Nyingchi, and other cities and prefectures.
 
In recent years, Tibet's sports departments have created a series of brand competitions in Nyingchi such as the Cycling Race around Basum Lake, National Rock Climbing, and Namjagbarwa Half Mountain Marathon. At the same time, activities including hiking and drifting are carried out. The forms of outdoor sports are diversified gradually.
 
The Nyingchi Plateau Training Base, which has started construction since July, 2015, aims to further perfect China's gradient layout of plateau training network, improve the plateau sports scientific research system, provide plateau aerobic training venue for competitive events, and offer a platform for the development of characteristic sports industry. At present, this training base has been completed and put into use.
 
At the Lhasa Yangpachen Mountain Training Base, sports games including rock climbing, mountaineering, cycling and so on can be held. Paragliding and mountain skiing are also once held.
