It is reported that, during 12th Five-Year, the whole region's science and technology research and development funds has been continously increasing, making an average annual growth of 30.4%. Besides, science and technology progress provides a strong support for the region's sustainable development of agriculture and animal husbandry. As of the end of 2015, the contribution rate of science and technology progress to economic growth in Tibet reached 40%, the contribution rate of scientific and technological progress in agriculture and animal husbandry reached up to 45%.

 

More than 80% of the population Tibet are in agricultural and pastoral areas, so the development of agricultural and pastoral areas in Tibet has direct bearing on the overall economic and social development level of Tibet. In 2016, to build a comprehensive well-off society in Tibet with the country, Tibet's Science and Technology Department further increased the agricultural investment, and more than 63% of 200 million yuan’s investment and regional finance in science and technology is invested for the development of agriculture and animal husbandry science and technology.

 

During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the Tibet Autonomous Region’s Science and Technology Department will focus on the major strategic requirements of Tibet Autonomous Region’s economic and social development, implement the eight major science and technology projects including the barley germplasm innovation and molecular breeding, livestock breeding and health aquaculture and so on, and strive to make major breakthroughs in agriculture and animal husbandry.

 

By the end of 2020, the proportion of GDP in the whole society’s science and technology investment shall reach 0.6%, the contribution rate of science and technology progress to economic growth shall reach 45%, and the contribution rate of science and technology progress in agriculture and animal husbandry industry shall reach 55%.
