Sept. 13, 2016 -- 7 years of hard work and nearly 2,000 kilometers. Workers have finished replacing the track along all 1956 kilometers of the railway on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The work began in 2010 with a total investment of close to 1.3 billion yuan. According to the railway company, the new seamless tracks have a higher density and strength. This means faster travel and better passenger comfort.

The high-elevation line connects Xining, Qinghai Province with Lhasa, Tibet. It's the world's highest railway that boasts the longest section in plateau areas. Since its inauguration a decade ago, the railway has seen more than 118 million passenger trips and transported some 455 million tons of freight.
