Tibetan rock climbers prepare to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Aug. 24, 2016 -- In August of 2016, the international Olympic committee officially announced that 5 contests involving rock climbing skill will be indoctrinated into the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games. 
 
Furthermore, the Asian Games to be held in Jakarta in 2018 will also hold such activities. Teams around the country are working hard to train for these events. 
 
Since being founded in 2006, the Tibetan rock climbing team has competed several times representing both the region as well as the nation and in the process has achieved high marks. The fact that rock climbing will now be in the Olympics has great significance to all climbers. And for Tibetan climbers it means more hope and prospects for going out into the world and winning medals.
 
The Tibetan team leader and trainer Sonam  Gyatso said “We hope to have breakthroughs at the Tokyo Olympics and the Asian Games, firstly by increasing our quota for participation and secondly by winning medals. Our strength is endurance.”
 
During the national rock climbing competition (Lhasa portion) held on August 25th and 26th, activities were held at the Himalayan Mountaineering School. The Tibetan team earns to breakthrough into the Olympic gains learning from one experience to the next.
