June 30, 2016 -- Golmud-Lhasa section of Qinghai-Tibet Railway renovation project was in full swing. Five stations will be newly built, six stations will be renovated and five station houses will be newly increased to improve the region' s rail capacity, according to Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company.
The renovation project starts from Kunlun Bridge, which lies at the foot of Yuzhu Peak of Kunlun Mountains. Foundation construction of 16,000 cubic meters subgrade filling and two culverts extension has been completed at the earlier stage.
It is reported that environmental protection is still a top priority in the process of construction. They will make sure landscape along the railway will not be destroyed, surface water and underground water not be polluted and vegetation be effectively protected.
Qinghai-Tibet Railway was opened to traffic in 2006, breaking the traffic bottleneck that restricting the development of Tibet for a long time.
Statistic shows that Qinghai-Tibet Railway has transported 115 million passengers and 448 million tons goods over the last 10 years.
