June 28, 2016 -- 110 kilovolt transformer substation project in Chanang County of Shannan Prefecture has started construction recently, marking the beginning of new rural power grid renovation in Tibet.

The project in Chanang County, one of the 13 rural power grid construction projects from 2016 to the end of 2017, is an important component of Tibet’s new rural power grid renovation and upgrading.

According to the plan, main electric network in Tibet will extend to key villages and towns in 74 counties of Tibet and cover 97% of the total population in the region by 2020, which will promote the counties’ power supply capacity and service level.

It is reported that the new rural power grid construction projects will benefit 66 counties, 3,300 small towns and about 1.62 milllion people in seven cities and prefectures in Tibet.

Among them, the construction projects in 3,070 small towns and central villages of 61 counties implemented by State Grid Tibet Electric Power Company are estimated to invest over 11.9 billion yuan RMB.
