Sept. 17 , 2020 -- Recently, Shannan Municipal Museum, the largest city-level museum in Tibet, opened to the public in Trandruk Town, Nedong District, Shannan City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
According to Wang Huadong, deputy secretary and vice mayor of Shannan City, "covering an area of 5,700 m2, Shannan Municipal Museum has a collection of over 4,000 cultural relics (currently the biggest number in Tibet). This museum further carries forward Tibetan history and culture, protects historical relics, enriches people's cultural life, and promotes the protection of local cultural relics.
This Museum consisting of a 4D cinema, a cultural & creative product supermarket, office area and a multi-function hall, is composed of four permanent exhibitions (Shannan historical exhibition, folk custom exhibition, traditional art exhibition, document exhibition) and a temporary exhibition. The museum contains many archaeological relics such as gold and silver wares, pottery, stone tools, historical documents, Buddhist classics, folk customs relics and other precious cultural relics.
Shannan is the birthplace of Tibetan people and culture. Industrious and kind Shannan people have had the first farmland of Tibet--Sodang, the first village--Sokar, the first palace--Yumbulagang, the first Tsenpo--Nyatri Tsenpo, the first manor--Namseling Manor, the first scripture--Bangongchakgyak, the first Buddhist hall--Trandruk Temple, the first monastery--Samye Temple, the first chain bridge--Nyanggo Chaksang, etc, all of which are fully displayed by Shannan Museum. A painted pottery unearthed from Gylesha cemetery, is more than 2000 years old and regarded as the most precious treasure of the museum.
