The 7th Thonmi Cultural Tourism Festival held in Tibet

Aug. 8, 2018 -- On August 5th, the seventh Thonmi cultural tourism festival took place in Nyemo County to promote local unique culture. Nyemo County of Lhasa, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, is well known for its Tibetan incense, Xoira Tibetan paper and Pusum carving. It is also the hometown of Thonmi Sangpodra who is a renowned linguist and translator in Tibetan history.

 

The Cultural Tourism Festival is intended to enrich cultural life and promote the development of the tourism industry through the display of traditional culture, such as Tibetan paper, opera as well as Tibetan opera masks.
 

The activity took place for 3 days. After the opening ceremony, there are Tibetan opera performances and Tibetan calligraphy displays. The next day, Tibetan incenses production competition and the Tibetan calligraphy competition took place. The tug of war was held on the last day.
