Southwest China's Chongqing launched a cross-border highway freight route to Nepal on Tuesday.

It is the first cross-border highway freight route from Chongqing to South Asia.

Trucks loaded with micro tillers departed from the Chongqing Nanpeng Highway Bonded Logistics Center (Type B). They will leave China through Zhangmu Port in the Tibet Autonomous Region and finally arrive in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

The journey is about 3,500 kilometers and takes about five to eight days. The route will be more than a month shorter compared to sea transport.

It will connect Nepal to inland areas of western China and promote economic and trade exchanges.

A cross-border highway freight route was first launched by Chongqing in April 2016. The city has operated six routes to ASEAN countries and three to Central Asia via highway.
