Jan.14,2021 -- According to the statistics issued by the Department of Culture of Tibet Autonomous Region, Tibet had set up 5,492 village-level folk art troupes, covering all the villages in the region. With 76 county-level art troupes, the number of art performers reached almost 100,000. They gave a total of over 20,000 performances last year, 10,000 more than that in 2015.
In order to support grassroots troupes, the regional government has granted an annual subsidy of 50,000 yuan to each village-level troupe to compensate performers for delay of work and costumes and props expenses.
Baiding Village in Lhasa set up a troupe in 2020. The First Secretary of the village Ciren Weise said that since the formation of the troupe, the performance quality has been improved. Performances featuring ethnic unity and poverty alleviation are especially welcomed.
In 2020, 1,038 people from county-level troupes went to villages to collect materials for artistic creation. They created or adapted 691 artistic works and helped village-level troupes increase performance skills.
Jinmei Wangcuo, Director of the Department of Culture of Tibet Autonomous Region, said strengthening the building of county-level and village-level troupes is key to enriching people’s cultural lives and improving their wellbeing.
