Experts: Tibet sees significant progress in human rights protection

Sept.29,2020 -- As a sideline event of the 44th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, a webinar themedSocial Development and Human Rights Protection in Tibet was held in southwest China’s Chongqing on July 13th, 2020. 
 
Experts from China, Pakistan andNepal hailed Tibet’s progress in social development and human rights protection.Theyagreedthat Tibetan people’s rights to subsistence and development have been improved. People in Tibet enjoymuch easier and wider access to healthcare. The infrastructure in the plateau regionsuch as traffic, water and power grid and communication has been upgraded. Tibet’s school-aged children all get access to education.Religious and cultural relics have beenwell-preserved, and people’s freedom of religious belief has been guaranteed.
 
Sun Hongnian, Deputy Director of the Frontier Institute of the Chinese Academy of SocialSciences, said that 628,000 people had beenlifted out of poverty and 74 countieshad been delisted from the poverty list in Tibet by the end of 2019. In Milin County of Nyingchi city, farmers and herdsmen have enjoyed free hospitalization treatment since 2017 with much easier access to other healthcare services.
 
YogeshwarRokihimi, former Senior Superintendent of Nepal Police and chief leader of the People's Party, said: “We have seen Tibet’s development in education, healthcare and traffic. Tibetan language, culture and religion are well preserved. Tibet has taken on a new look.”
 
“People of all ethnic groups in Tibet are most qualified to speak on how Tibet’s social developments and human rights protection are going. People’s ever-growing sense of happinessis the best human right,”said Zhang Yonghe, Executive Director of the Human Rights Institute of the Southwest University of Political Science and Law.
